People first, always

Empowering people to live enriched lives.

Every person deserves a real home, and a life of their own.

Supported living is more than a place to stay — it’s the foundation on which a person can build confidence, choice and a meaningful life. That belief shapes everything we do at Shalom.

We support adults aged 18 and over across Havering, Thurrock and the surrounding areas, providing supported living, floating support, and support for people in their own homes.

We exist to make sure adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs have what every person deserves: a real home, a life of their own, and people around them who treat them with compassion and respect.

We empower people to live enriched, independent and meaningful lives with the freedom to make their own choices — and we hold ourselves to the highest standards in how we do it.

Support built around the individual

At Shalom Community Support Services we provide both supported living and floating support for adults from the age of 18 who have mild, moderate or severe learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs and other conditions — including those who sometimes display behaviour others may find challenging.

We start from a simple principle: people with learning disabilities or mental health needs have the same fundamental rights as everyone else. We actively promote equality and diversity, both among our staff and in the support we provide.

Our core values

The values that guide our work and define who we are

Three simple principles shape every decision we make — from the way we greet a new tenant to the way we run the organisation.

Compassion

We put people first
Every person we support is treated with dignity, kindness and genuine care, however complex their needs.

Excellence

We aim higher every day
We hold ourselves to the highest standards of safe, effective, well-led care. We are accountable for what we do, and we keep learning.

Empowerment

We believe in potential
We support people to build confidence, independence and a life of their own choosing — while empowering our staff to grow and succeed.

Empowering people to live enriched lives

How we put our values to work

Every package of support is customised to the individual — to their needs, their goals and the life they want to lead. The principles below run through everything we do.

Truly person-centred

Support plans reflect each tenant’s background, beliefs, choices and ambitions.

Trained, experienced staff

Each tenant has their own allocated worker, and ongoing training is a responsibility we take seriously.

Working in partnership

With GPs, CPNs, social workers, psychiatrists and families to deliver joined-up care.

Led by the tenant’s voice

Through feedback sessions, house meetings and ongoing consultation.
